PAX South Sudan Policy Brief #1

Peace in South Sudan is fragile, some fighting continues and the leaders of the warring parties are reluctant to execute the peace treaty that was signed a month ago. However, the European Union should fully support the peace process, PAX stresses in this policy brief. The protection of witnesses of serious crimes should be priority in order to bring culprits to book. Moreover, the EU should endorse the JMEC (committee in charge of executing the peace treaty), the review of the constitution, protection of civil society and local peace initiatives.
