Deeply shocked and saddened by the bombings in Sri Lanka

April 23, 2019

PAX is deeply shocked and saddened by the Easter Sunday attacks that killed so many people in Sri Lanka. We wish to express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and sympathies to those who were wounded in the attacks.

The increasing polarization in various parts of the world, and the violence which often results, is profoundly troubling. We hope this tragedy will not lead to more suffering, in Sri Lanka or elsewhere.

We share the sentiments expressed by the general secretary of the World Council of Churches, Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit: “A fitting tribute to the memories of those who lost their lives in sacred spaces of peace and refuge is for us all to live out the difficult task of demonstrating that the power of peace and love are far greater than the power of violence.”
