On the 2nd of December 2021 at 6 p.m. PAX, the Nuhanovic Foundation and the University of Amsterdam will organize an online webinar on the Ziada case and more in general focus on access to justice for Palestinians in anticipation of the ruling of the Ziada case appeal.

Prof. Zwanenburg (Military Operations, UvA) and Dr. Susan Power (Head of Legal Research and Advocacy at Al-Haq) will be sharing their insights during the webinar and the discussion will be moderated by Thomas van Gool (Project Lead Israel-Palestine at PAX)

Mr Ziada is a Palestinian man who is seeking damages from the Israeli officials who have killed his family via a civil suit in The Hague. In 2020 the District Court denied Ziada’s claim and he appealed the decision, arguing that the Court erred in its decision to extend functional immunity to the accused, further denying his right to justice contributing to impunity for international crimes. A hearing for the appeal took place on the 23rd September 2021, and the Court is expected to issue its ruling on the 7th December 2021.

The Nuhanovic Foundation, an organisation founded by Professor and prominent lawyer Liesbeth Zegveld, offers assistance to war victims like Mr Ziadi in seeking access to justice. More information on the case can be found here.
