Open Letter from South Sudanese Civil Society

March 10, 2014

With support from PAX and a number of other NGOs, thirteen South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations have sent an open letter to the Members of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR).

In their letter of March 6th the South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations call on the ACHPR to: condemn human rights violations, advocate the immediate establishment of the Commission of Inquiry, and to help promote a culture of respect for human rights and the rule of law in South Sudan.

Earlier, on January 25th, sixteen South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations issued a statement on the establishment of a Commission of Inquiry into the atrocities committed during the current conflict in South Sudan. They directed their recommendations to the African Union Peace and Security Council.

PAX fully supports the initiatives of the South Sudanese Civil Society Organizations. We are proud and thankful to have a partner in the South Sudan Law Society (SSLS), and good longstanding relations with many of the other signatory organizations.
