Young talent offers hope for 2026 through strategic activism

At a time when the news often paints a bleak picture, the commitment of a new generation of activists is needed more than ever. Over the past few months, young people from across the country gathered at our Activist Academy to learn how to turn their ideals into effective campaigns. We concluded the training with a Campaign Fair in Utrecht, where participants presented their campaign plans that will challenge those in power and bring about change in their own communities.

This year, the PAX Activist Academy once again offered an intensive programme in which participants were trained to become strategic activists. Over six training days, they learned how to independently set up strong campaigns for their social goals. The focus was on developing a clear campaign structure, effective lobbying of stakeholders and strategic communication. In addition, attention was paid to deep canvassing and the legal basis of activism by thoroughly studying demonstration rights.

During the festive closing ceremony in Utrecht, participants presented their work on a variety of urgent themes. For example, plans were developed to improve women’s rights and gender equality in Nijmegen by presenting a manifesto to the city council. In Eindhoven, young people are championing the rights of nature by advocating for a formal voice for ecological interests in decision-making. The call for justice in international conflicts was also loud and clear, with campaigns focused on the recognition of Palestine by municipalities and tackling disinformation surrounding wars through open-source research techniques.

This year’s group of participants was particularly enthusiastic and brought with them a wide variety of topics. More and more people want to take action for peace. PAX provides a platform that not only equips these young activists with skills, but also connects them with networks to increase their impact.

Although the campaigns are still in their infancy, the participants have demonstrated that they have the knowledge and vision to actually launch their plans. The world is crying out for positive change. This group of young activists gives us hope for the future.

About the PAX Activist Academy

We empower young activists who fight for peace and justice. Through training in non-violent action, lobbying and campaigning, we increase their knowledge and impact. In this way, we help them develop strategies, exert influence and promote social justice. Our mission: to strengthen their position and increase the scope for change.
