Over 100,000 people drew a red line against Dutch complicity in Gaza genocide

On Sunday, May 18th, over 100,000 of us marched to The Hague to protest the government's policy on Israel and Gaza. At the Malieveld, the message was crystal clear: draw a red line against war crimes and end Dutch complicity. It was the largest demonstration in 20 years. Yet the Netherlands continues supplying weapons to Israel and purchasing billions worth of Israeli arms. Our government is lining the pockets of Israel's war industry. Military cooperation between both countries continues, and despite the extreme violence, the Netherlands wants to sign a new military agreement. This has to stop.

The Schoof government has crossed moral and legal red lines. Despite Israel’s ongoing violations of international humanitarian law, our government refuses to draw any boundaries and won’t take action to end impunity and complicity. Our government keeps shielding Israel, completely ignoring the demands of the vast majority of Dutch people.

We won’t accept this

For a year and a half, Gaza has endured extreme violence that’s killed over 50,000 people, wounded and displaced countless others, and destroyed schools, hospitals and vital infrastructure. Israel ignores International Court of Justice rulings, International Criminal Court arrest warrants, and urgent UN and humanitarian appeals. It uses starvation as a weapon of war, seizes more territory, and inflicts unbearable suffering on Palestinian civilians, including many children.

This won’t bring us any closer to freeing the hostages or achieving lasting peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

The Netherlands – host to both the International Criminal Court and International Court of Justice – makes it painfully clear it won’t act against Israel’s violations of international law, choosing instead to hold meaningless talks with Israel. Talks that Israel repeatedly ignores without consequences. The Netherlands continues actively supporting Israel through trade benefits, defense agreements, and weapons deliveries that kill Gaza civilians every single day.

Prime Minister Schoof: draw the red line. Now!

On May 18th, we demanded a government that stands up for human rights and listens to the majority’s loud and clear call. A government that upholds international law and takes action when that law gets violated.

Join us for the next Red Line action

On 18 May, over 100,000 people formed a red line through The Hague to protest the Dutch government’s complicity in the genocide in Gaza. The silence from those in power continues — and so must our protest.

On Sunday 15 June, we are drawing the red line again. This time, it must be even clearer: the Netherlands must stop supporting Israel’s war machine.

Be there. Raise your voice. Draw the red line.
