We are mourning the loss of three women leaders from the “Empowered Women Influence” (EWI) project

On April 27th, three people that we work with in South Sudan have tragically lost their lives in a plane crash. We offer our deepest condolences to the families, friends and communities, to RECONCILE International, to the Empowered Women Influence partnership, and to all others affected. Together, we are mourning the loss of three courageous and devoted women leaders who served as volunteers under our joint “Empowered Women Influence” (EWI) project.

These women leaders tragically lost their lives in an aircraft crash on the 27th of April 2026 while traveling to Juba. These are difficult times, in which the heartbreaking loss of great women advocates for peace is keenly felt, far beyond their families. It is a profound tragedy for the community of Yei River County, for the entire nation of South Sudan and to the international peace movement.

These women were beacons of hope and tireless advocates for peace, human rights, reconciliation, and community empowerment. Their dedication touched countless lives, and their absence leaves a deep and lasting void in every community they served. In this time of sorrow, we stand together with you, with their families and loved ones, holding you in our thoughts. May you find comfort, strength, and peace in the midst of this grief.

We honor the lives and legacy of these extraordinary women as we continue to work tirelessly to translate peace into actions at national, subnational and international level. In doing so, we are following the local examples of these courageous women, remaining committed to carry forward the work they believed in so deeply.
